Valentino Collection Anyone looking for proof that it is a new day at Valentino need only have tuned in to the Golden Globes, where Chloë Sevigny nabbed an award in a gown by the label's new designers, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli. It wasn't so outré that Mr. Valentino would have disapproved, but it was definitely more avant than anything the label's founder was doing before they retired. That is a lovely way to report the duo's pre-fall collection. The lace, the exquisite beadwork, and the ruffles and frills the house is known for are still there, but they are executed in a more modern (read: shorter) way. Now in their fifth season with the house (counting couture), Chiuri and Piccioli did red for the first time. But we are not talking your typical Valentino red chiffon. In lieu, they showed a patent trench, leather motorbike pants worn with a fox overweight in the same hue, as well as a party dress of red paillettes sewn onto nude tulle. Piccioli c

Seattle-based Organic clothing line Hatchling Kids has adorable tees that are good for your little one AND good for the environment. Hatchling was created by Leanne Hatch and Lisa Riech because they appreciated the idea and quality of organic clothing for their children but felt that the tranquil vibe many presented did not match the energy, playfulness and, downright silliness of their little ones’ personalities. UK based Topshop had been rumored to be joining the ranks of clothing retailer in 2006 but then backed out. The mega retailer has now decided to open its first store in SOHO New York. I just found out about this new UK based lounge wear site Hush. I love the soft color palettes and the simple but elegant lines. Everything in their catalog looks so cozy, yet still pretty.

The collection was cohesive and immediate: you just wanted to run and steal one of the distressed black woolens, to put on immediately, his ability to manipulate yarns is second to none, except perhaps Mark fast's womenswear: but that is neither here nor there. The palette was dark and sulky, flashes of red were littered about creating a richness to the collection that the otherwise inobtrusive palette could not have managed alone. Details: Head bands, leather: cushioned/panelled/all over it was everywhere, oversized knits, boiler suits, biker trousers, obese courdroys, shearling, denim, distressed. I think those words summarise the collection in it's most simplistic terms quite effectively. Again shearling was sent down the runway: this time in the shape of bags and random detailing. All denim was printed with red, all courdroy was made up of FAT channeling rather than the rather demure grooves of courdroys on offer in American Apparel. Navy was a popular colour for this maest

No ones collection shouted WEALTH, quite like Tim Soars. With the addition of some of Savile Row's finiest tailors showing collections at Men's day: some of the more contemporary designers gave prestigious sartorial and infinite elegance a whirl. Tim Soar was the most successful: leather cumber bands and rain hats, double breasted jackets and coats. Camel, caramel, black, navy and white: the palette of a gentleman, the attire of a success story. AW 10 may just be the season of Soar. Cropped jackets and collarless shirts added a contemporary twist with the traditionalism that was flaunted in the faces of the avant-garde supporters, and there was the blue boy - he was pretty avant garde, but immaculately dressed!
